Red Star general manager Zvezdan Terzić said that the club had no influence on the decision of Montenegrin national team members Filip Stojković and Mirko Ivanić to refuse to play against Kosovo in the qualifiers for next year's European Championship.
On the day of the match against Kosovo, Ljubiša Tumbaković decided not to lead Montenegro, and the same decision was made by the Red Star players, Mirko Ivanić and Filip Stojković.
The players of Red Star, as well as until recently the selector Ljubiša Tumbaković, were not participants in the match on Friday in Podgorica against Kosovo in the qualifiers for the EURO.
"We haven't heard from them, it's their decision. In general, I don't think it's good to mix sports and politics, but the situation around Kosovo is specific. They had a conversation with friends and families. The club wasn't even consulted when they chose to play for Crna Goru, and not even now about this decision," said Terzić at the beginning of the red-white team's preparations, reports Žurnal.
Terzić also referred to the debacle of Serbia in Ukraine (5:0) and pointed out that the "eagles" need everyone's support on the way to the European Championship.
"We are a nation prone to euphoria on the one hand and throwing ourselves into the mud on the other. Everything that was done before, qualification to the World Cup, victories in the League of Nations, a good start in Portugal, was canceled and that defeat brought a negative attitude from the public and the media. Surely it's not pleasant. We need to give full support until the match against Lithuania, and then make an analysis," said Zvezda's director.
