Behind Momcilo Raspopović is a difficult period in Rijeka, the struggle with an injury to the anterior cruciate ligaments is in the distant past, so the Montenegrin representative is slowly and surely creating space to be in the first team again in the team from Rujevica.
The right back's primary job is not to score goals, but that's exactly how Raspopović imposed himself on the weekend in the Croatian Football League - Rijeka outclassed Hajduk 4:0 in Split, and the former captain of Budućnost was the scorer of the second goal in the finish. He spent 20 minutes on the pitch and it was his first game for Rijeka since September 1st and the duel with Inter from Zaprešić...
- I recovered from a serious injury, and then I was cut short by an ankle injury at the beginning of the season, after being a standard player, I also played European matches for Rijeka. But such things happen in sports, it's only important that you get the best out of them - said Raspopović for "Vijesti".
A Hajduk goal always has weight, no matter what moment they "were". With this victory, Rijeka moved closer to the second-placed Split to three points, with the fact that they also have a game in hand. All this after coach Igor Bišćan was replaced by the young Slovenian Simon Rožman at the end of September.
- Once again we showed that we are worth it, that we have quality. There were bad periods this season, we also changed the coach, which always requires a certain amount of time to get used to. I am sure that we are on the right track, we all feel that we are playing better and better. We won convincingly twice in a row, but we don't want to stop there - says Raspopović.
Since arriving in Rijeka in January of last year, Raspopović has scored two goals - before Hajduk, he scored in a draw against Dinamo Zagreb (1:1), at the beginning of last season.
- I was waiting for a chance for a long time and I got it at Poljud. I think I used it in the right way. I am happy about the goal and because this is my first game since the new coach came. I hope that in the next matches I will get more space and that I will be able to prove that I have a place in the starting 11 - says the 25-year-old from Podgorica.
He recently made his debut for the national team, although that debut was overshadowed by the debacle against England at "Wembley" in the qualifiers for the European Championship (7:0). He then played 90 minutes in a friendly against Belarus.
- There is no need to talk much about the national team, because playing for the national team is the greatest success of an athlete. The moment we are in is not good, but I hope that better games and results will come very soon - concluded Raspopović.
