A master is a master, that cannot change despite age. Joaquin, the legend of Betis, has as many as 38, but from weekend to weekend the Spanish public can enjoy everything that the former representative of the "red fury" does.
Joaquin drew attention to himself yesterday - he scored three goals in 20 minutes of a duel against Athletic Bilbao and became the La Liga record holder - he is the oldest player to score a hat-trick, at 38 years and 140 days.
The record was held by the legendary Alfredo di Stefano on March 15, 1964. He scored three goals at 37 years and 255 days.
- All this seemed magical, I played as if in a trance. I don't know, it's not easy to explain all this, but I enjoy the Betis jersey - said Joaquin.
Joaquin is not only the record holder of Primera, but also of all the strongest five leagues in Europe. The oldest hat-trick scorer in the Bundesliga is Claudio Pisaro (37 years, 151 days), in the Premier League Teddy Sheringham (37 years, 146 days), in Italy it was done by Silvio Piola when he was 37 years and 51 days, and in France Toni Cascarino with 37 and 31.
The love between Betis and Joaquin has long been known. He is a child of the club for which he made his first team debut in 2000. He later wore the shirt of Valencia, Malaga and Fiorentina, but after nine seasons he decided to return.
There is no longer any doubt, Joaquin will end his career in the green jersey. Maybe it already happens at the end of this season.
- In the end, it is much more important that we beat Athletic - Joaquin, whose full name is Joaquin Sánchez Rodríguez, pointed out modestly.
That's why Betis fans love him, after all. Because, for him, the club is before everything and everyone.
