Swedish football player Zlatan Ibrahimovic said that it is sad that his statue is being desecrated in his native Malmo and that his history will remain forever regardless of the fact that the statue has disappeared.
"It's sad. Those who know all the details would never do anything like that. Those who want attention and want the media to write about it because they think it's cool are at the level of children. We are bigger than that. The statue was the way it was, and the fact that the statue has disappeared does not mean that my history has also disappeared. My history remains forever," Ibrahimovic told local media.
The large bronze statue of Ibrahimović, which was installed at the beginning of October in his native Malmö, was demolished at the beginning of the year.
The perpetrators put a scarf of the Swedish national team around the statue's neck and, according to the police, left a message that they did not want to see the statue in Malmo again.
Ibrahimović's statue has been desecrated several times, and because he became one of the co-owners of Hammarby, Malmo's great rival.
While the coronavirus pandemic continues, the football player from Milan in Italy spends his time in Hammarby and trains.
"I'm grateful to be a part of this and to be able to train with these guys, because in Europe everything is at a standstill, especially in Italy where we can't train and we have to stay at home. So I'm very happy to be here and to I have the opportunity to meet these fantastic people who work at the club, as well as the players," he said.
He added that he "wants to learn about football from a different angle" and that he wants to share his knowledge with the club, so he didn't think much when he got the opportunity to become part of Hammarby.
"This opportunity came up and it seemed like a great idea to me. As for the anger of the Malmo fans, I would just say that I gave that team more than 100 million kroner in aid during these times, so I did something for them too, right? ", stated Ibrahimović.
Ibrahimovic spoke about many topics for "Dplay" television and pointed out that he is not thinking about retirement yet.
"I don't know how much longer I will be able to, but I want to play as long as my body listens to me. Therefore, I am not thinking about retirement at the moment, because I have a contract with Milan. So I have to see first how things will develop there," he said. 38-year-old Ibrahimović.
According to him, health is the most important and that sports should come into consideration when the situation is better. He added that nothing is known yet about the continuation of the season
