The day Hamsik overtook Maradona

With a goal in the 39th minute, for Napoli's 3:2 lead against Sampdoria, Marek Hamšik wrote a new page in the history of the Neapolitan club.

With 116 goals, the Slovak overtook the legendary Diego Armando Maradona for the number of goals in the Napoli jersey.

Maradona reached the figure of 115 goals incomparably faster, and his contribution to the history of Napoli is certainly immeasurable - it took him 259 games.

Hamsik needed almost twice as many games for the record - 479.

Hamsik came to Napoli in the summer of 2007 as a 20-year-old. He became the captain and one of the club's best players 10 years later.

It took Maradona seven years to score 115 goals for Napoli, from 1984 to 1991. The legendary Argentine led Napoli to the only two championship titles, in 1987 and 1990.
