The young football team of Montenegro will play in group F with Italy, Sweden, the Republic of Ireland, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Luxembourg in the qualifiers for the 2023 European Championship, it was decided by today's draw in Nyon.
Eight groups of six and one group of five national teams were formed by lot. Montenegro was drawn from the fifth hat, after finishing last in the group in the last cycle.
"The group is difficult, I think it is more difficult than in the previous qualifying cycle. We now have to adapt to this group and try to get the best possible result. Before the start of the previous qualifications, I was very optimistic, but we did not do well in terms of results. I am sure that we will try to draw lessons from those qualifications, in order to achieve the best possible result in this group. We will also need sporting luck, as well as to avoid personnel problems. I want us to be more competitive in the upcoming qualifications, for the boys to have as many minutes as possible in their clubs , in order to properly respond to the tasks that we will set before them," said the coach of the young national team, Miodrag Vukotić.
The 2023 European Championship will be held in Romania and Georgia, and direct placement will be provided by the nine first-placed teams as well as the best second-placed team. The remaining eight second-placed national teams will play in the play-off.
The qualifications will start in March this year and end in June 2022. The exact schedule of the competition will be announced later.
