Bayern recently won their sixth title of the season, signed in-demand defender Dajo Upamekan from Qatar in the summer - great things are happening at the Munich club, led by CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
In an interview with the Italian Corriere dello Sport, the former great striker commented on the developments in European football, and his favorite topic was Barcelona again.
Recently, he said that he almost "suffocated" when he read how much the Catalan club's debts were, and now that he laughed sweetly when he saw the size of Leo Messi's contract.
"I can only congratulate him, because he managed to secure such an astronomical contract. I was laughing," Rumenige said.
Spanish media reported that Messi cost Barcelona more than 500 million euros in the last four years.
"I think that this is a lot and that the limit has been lost in recent years. The pandemic has shown us that we have to find a more rational model. I hope that we will succeed. I think that the initiative from 2008 to introduce the 'celery cap' was good, but the politicians said it was not in accordance with European laws. Maybe it's the right time to start the story again," Rumenige said.
