Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus published a joint statement in which they commented decision of UEFA, which has officially launched disciplinary proceedings against these three clubs for their attempt to launch the Super League.
"Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid are absolutely against UEFA's persistent coercion that it is carrying out against three of the most relevant institutions in the history of football. This alarming attitude is a flagrant violation of the decision of the courts which have already made a clear statement warning UEFA to refrain from taking any action which would punish the founders of the Superliga while the legal proceedings are ongoing," the joint statement reads.
Real, Barca and Juve point out that therefore UEFA's initiation of disciplinary proceedings is incomprehensible and "is a direct attack on the rule of law that we, the citizens of the European Union, have democratically built, and at the same time represents a lack of respect for the authority of the courts."
"From the beginning, the Superliga was promoted with the aim of improving the situation in European football, through constant dialogue with UEFA and with the aim of increasing interest in sports and providing fans with the best possible show. This goal must be achieved within the framework of sustainability and solidarity, especially in an uncertain economic situation such as currently in many European clubs. Instead of exploring ways to modernize football through open dialogue, Uefa expects us to withdraw mechanisms that challenge its monopoly over European football. Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid, all over a century old, will not accept any any form of coercion or unbearable pressure, while remaining strong in their willingness to respectfully and through dialogue discuss the urgent solutions that football needs right now. Either we will reform football or we will have to watch it decline," the statement said.
At the end of April, 12 clubs decided to form the Super League - Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, Milan, Inter and Juventus. This was followed by numerous protests around the world, and nine clubs decided to withdraw. All, except for Real, Barca and Juventus, who are still "at war" with UEFA.
