25 years ago in England, Karel Poborski scored a spectacular goal against Portugal, when he lobbed Vitor Baia in the quarter-finals of the European Championship.
Patrik Šik was only five months old at the time, but like all Czech football players, he looked up to the famous generation that then reached the final and unfortunately, after extra time, lost to Germany.
Now he was waiting to be talked about as Poborski, because of the masterful goal against Scotland - the striker of Bayer Leverkusen shot from almost half of the field, and the ball went into the net with a great effort.
"At least three times I imagined a goal like this in my head, because in the 1st half I saw that the goalkeeper likes to go out. I was constantly looking at where he was," said the former striker of Sparta, Bohemians, Sampdoria, Roma and Leipzig with a smile.
It is also interesting that Poborski, many years after the goal against Portugal, said that he saw that Baia liked to go off the line.
Czech coach Jaroslav Šilhavi was overjoyed.
"Shik's goal is unreal, and Vaclik was also outstanding. He saved us and stopped everything that went past the defense," emphasized Šilhavi.
