The giant is back!
When they were pushed against the wall, under the imperative of victory against the current European champion, the Germans presented themselves in the most beautiful splendor - 4:2 against Portugal at the "Allianz Arena" in Munich.
"Manshaft" lost in the opening match against France (1:0) and, considering the strength of the group, put into question the passage to the round of 2018. Germany, however, is too big a footballing nation to finish two major competitions in a row in the group stage, after the World Cup debacle in Russia XNUMX.
The "hot potato" has now been accepted by the Portuguese - they have the same number of points as Germany (three), but also a much more difficult match in the last round, because they meet the world champion France in Budapest. If they lose, they can win!
The Germans, on the other hand, are playing Hungary in Munich and have a chance to reach the round of XNUMX, maybe even from the first position...
The Portuguese took the lead in the 15th minute, after a three-move action that was opened by Bernanrdo Silva with a great deep ball, Jota continued with a nice assist, and Cristiano Ronaldo finished with the 12th goal in the European championships.
It seemed then that Germany's agony continued, even though the "manchaft" played better football from the beginning, created chances, and even had Goossens' goal disallowed.
Joakim Lev's team continued, however, to "grind" the Portuguese in the same rhythm and the turn came already at halftime.
Two "mirrored" goals were scored by the Germans, they outplayed the visitors' defense as in indoor soccer, and the epilogue of the actions in the 35th and 39th minutes was the same - own goals by Portuguese defenders Dias and Guerreiro. Assistants were Gosens and Kimich.
Already in the sixth minute of the continuation, the home team's third goal according to the same "mould" - Gosens was left alone on the left side and assisted Haverca for 3:1.
Robin Gosens is a true revelation of the Germans and the entire European Championship. Krlina's Atalanta player, a guy who grew up in the Netherlands and never played in the Bundesliga, in the 60th minute, after a disallowed goal and two assists, finally shook the net - he headed in a cross from Kimiha to make it 4:1.
The Portuguese were in a knockdown, on the verge of disaster, but Jota, with a cunning assist from Ronaldo, put the ball into the net for an acceptable 2:4 - a goal that can be significant because of the goal difference, and "selesao" is still positive there (5: 4).
However, Fernando Santos' team is in a similar position as the Germans were before this game, but they need to stand out against the French...
On the other hand, in the "manchaft", it is easier to breathe before the duel with the Hungarians.
