English football clubs spent this summer on player reinforcements as much as one billion and 140 million pounds, which is more than the combined spending of clubs in Spain, Germany and France, British media announced.
The biggest transfer was made by Manchester City, who took Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for 100 million pounds. Right behind him is the transfer of Romelu Lukaku, for which Chelsea paid Inter 98 million pounds.
Italian clubs followed, spending 473,8 million pounds, and the most expensive signing was Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham, for whom Roma paid 34 million pounds.
French clubs are third on the list of the biggest spenders (428,9 million pounds), and the most expensive transfer was that of Ashraf Hakimi, for whom PSG paid Inter 60 million pounds. Lionel Messi, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Sergio Ramos and Georginio Wijnaldum arrived at PSG without compensation, as free agents.
German clubs follow (337,9 million pounds), then Spanish clubs (325,4 million pounds). Real Madrid tried to sign Kylian Mbappe from PSG, but their offer of £154 million was rejected.
On the other hand, German clubs earned the most from compensation - 462,7 million pounds, followed by French teams with 457,3 million pounds of compensation earnings.
