Supertalented Frenchman Eduardo Kamavinga was presented in Real Madrid as a great pledge for the future of the "royal club".
But Spain and the world of sports were shaken by the ugly news even before his first training sessions. Teledeporte journalist Lorena González, thinking that the cameras were not on, commented: "This player is blacker than his jersey"!
The Spanish Broadcasting and Television Corporation (RTVE) condemned the journalist for her racist comments.
In a statement, the corporation stated that the journalist's words "were disrespectful and unacceptable for a public TV channel." RTVE emphasized that punitive measures will be taken after the investigation.
Gonzalez publicly apologized.
“My comment, which was not malicious or disrespectful to the player, but was inappropriate. I could use a similar compared to a person with any skin color. However, I understand what a sensitive time we live in, although at the same time I believe that now everyone is excessively politicized and radicalized, and yet the media should bear even greater responsibility in the fight against racism and any other discrimination," the journalist wrote.
