The young football team of Montenegro is preparing for a visit to Sweden in Helsingborg on October 8 and a duel with the Republic of Ireland near Gorica four days later, as part of the European Championship qualifiers.
Miodrag Vukotić's men have played four matches so far, they drew at home with Bosnia and Herzegovina (2:2), then they won in Luxembourg (2:1), and last month they lost to the first favorites of the group, Sweden, in Podgorica ( 3:1) and Italy in Pescara (1:0).
The "Young Falcons" are clearly outsiders ahead of the new match with the Swedes, this time away, but they will try to make a surprise. A parameter is also the duel under Gorica, where Krstović and his friends put up more than good resistance, and the defeat by two goals was too much in the end...
"Against Sweden at home, we missed several opportunities to take the lead, and then they punished us. We saw how dangerous the opponents are, how quality players they have. They play in big clubs, strong championships, strong matches, while we have such matches several times a year." , says defender Ognjen Obradović.
However...
"It seems to me that we lack nuances. We need a win against a strong opponent. We feel that we can do it," adds the Iskra footballer.
However, a lot of things need to come together, and above all - a concentrated game in defense.
"We dropped some points due to our mistakes, and there was also a lack of luck. There were mistakes in the back line and we conceded - to put it this way - stupid goals. We have a good group of players, we are working very well and I believe that will give the result we want. We need to maintain concentration for the entire 90 minutes, which is not easy at all, but we simply have to do it if we want to hope for anything," Obradović points out.
And when it comes to defense, the gathering of the national team began with Vukotić suspending captain Stefan Milić for breach of discipline.
The Dinamo Zagreb defender will not play against Sweden and Ireland.
"Stefan means a lot to us, but I couldn't get past some things. I hope he will learn lessons. He is a young player, we are certainly counting on him in the future," said Vukotić.
