Dean Smith took over Norwich

Norwich, who are bottom of the Premier League, have appointed Dean Smith as their new manager.

The man who was recently fired from Aston Villa has signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Canaries, and he will succeed the German Daniel Farke on the bench.

Smith has only been waiting eight days for a new job since being sacked at Villa, where he was succeeded by Steven Gerrard.

"I am very pleased to be back in coaching and to work for Norwich. It is a club that has done well in the last four and a half years. Now it's up to me and my assistant to improve that work, and the main goal is survival in the Premier League," said Smith.

After 11 rounds, Norwich has only five points, and that is what separates it from the safety zone.
