The logo of the Russian oil company Gazprom will be removed from the football club Schalke's jerseys.
The club announced that the logo of the Russian company will be replaced by the inscription of the club's name "Schalke 04", after "recent events" between Russia and Ukraine.
Gazprom has been a sponsor of Schalke for 15 years, and this morning the head of that company, Matthias Varnig, left the Board of Directors of the "royal blue" after the latest US sanctions.
Germany's Bild covered the Gazprom logo on Schalke's jerseys with the message "Freedom for Ukraine" on its front page this week, in protest of Russia's military intervention.
Gazprom is a major sponsor in European football, primarily the Champions League.
