"Chances for the Top 4? It's difficult. As long as we don't win our games, there's no point in placing our hopes in others and waiting for the rival's setbacks," said manager Ralf Rangnik.
He referred to the game at Goodison.
"I wouldn't say that we lack creativity, but strength and aggressiveness in the last third. We didn't have enough players in the end, we made it easier for Everton's defense," said the German.
United won 47 percent of matches in the Premier League with Rangnik - eight out of 17.
Everton registered a triumph that increased the chances of staying in the Premier League.
"It wasn't easy to wake up the morning after Burnley (the 3-2 defeat on Tuesday) but my job is to lift the team. This is a great group of lads who never give up," said Everton manager Frank Lampard.
