Basque legend and his brother become "black stars"

Spanish-born brothers Injaki and Nico Williams have agreed to play for Ghana, and the country's football association has begun the process of changing their football citizenship.

The Athletic Bilbao tandem decided to accept the invitation of the country where their parents are from.

At their persuasion, they made such a decision.

Injaki played once for Spain, but in a friendly match, while Niko made several appearances for the U18 and U21 teams.

Injaki said last year that he was not ready to play for Ghana:

“My parents are from Accra and I really enjoy coming to Ghana. But I wasn't born or raised there, my culture is here in Spain, and there are players for whom the national team would mean more.

"I don't think it would be right to take the place of someone who really feels that he belongs to Ghana 100 percent," he added.

However, much has changed since the interview, including the Black Stars qualifying for the 2022 World Cup.

Injaki and Niko have a better chance to play for Ghana in Qatar than for Spain.

Injaki Williams (27) is a legend of Athletic Bilbao, and he holds the record in Spanish football for the number of consecutive matches played – 228, without missing a single one in the last six years.

Niko (19) made his debut for the first team last year and has made 30 appearances in La Liga this season.

Ghana is in Group H of the World Cup, which will be held in November this year, with Portugal, Uruguay and South Korea.
