A football player who plays in the English Premier League was arrested in North London on suspicion of rape, British media reported last night.
The name of the arrested football player was not disclosed, and Telegraf reported that it was not an English football player, but a foreign player.
"The rape of a 4-year-old girl was reported to the police on July 20. On the same day, a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of having committed the rape and he is still in custody. The reported rape allegedly took place in June 2022," said the London police for the BBC.
In a statement, the police added that "the investigation into the circumstances of the case is ongoing."
The trial of Manchester City footballer Benjamin Mendy, who is accused of multiple rapes, is ongoing in England. The rape charge against Cristiano Ronaldo was recently dismissed.
