Croatian national team member Josko Guardiol will become the most expensive defender in history, if the announcement of the best football insider Fabrizio Romano is correct.
Chelsea, reported Romano, offered Leipzig 90 million euros for Guardiola, with the provision that he would stay in the German team until the end of the season, and then move to London.
At only 20 years old, Guardiol will thus become the highest-paid defensive player, ahead of Harry Maguire, for whom Manchester United paid Leicester 87.1 million euros three years ago, and Virgil van Dijk, whom Liverpool paid Southampton 84.5 million four years ago.
Guardiol moved to Leipzig from Dinamo for 18.8 million euros, and Dinamo will get a fortune from this transfer.
In Guardiola's sales contract with Leipzig, there is a clause according to which the Croatian champion receives 20 percent of the earnings during the transfer of his next transfer.
Given that the Germans earn 71.2 million euros, Dinamo is entitled to 14.24 million.
Guardiol, by the way, played only 112 senior games in his career. He played 52 matches for Dinamo, 50 for Leipzig and 10 for Croatia.
