The futsal national team of Montenegro started its performance in the Main Round of World Cup qualifiers with a 3:1 defeat against Slovenia.
The selection of Sveta Ljesar offered good resistance in Maribor, but the host still justified the role of favorite.
Slovenia took the lead after a little more than a minute of play, when Igor Osredkar was accurate. The guests retaliated in the 17th minute with a goal by Aleksandar Obradović.
Although the home team created chances and hit the goal frame three times, there was no change until the 30th minute and a goal by Žiga Čeh, and two minutes later Denis Totošković set the final score.
- A well-deserved victory for Slovenia at the opening of the qualifiers. We parried well for two thirds of the game, when we played very aggressively. But, when we ran out of strength, our concentration also dropped, the home team stepped up even more, scored two quick goals and decided the game in their favor, said coach Sveto Ljesar.
In the second round of Group 5, Montenegro will welcome Kazakhstan, one of the best European teams, on October 12.
