The defender of Uruguay and Barcelona, Ronald Araujo (23), will have a thigh muscle operation on Wednesday in Turku, Finland, the Catalan giants announced.
Arauho was injured on Friday, when Uruguay lost 1:0 away to Iran, and left the field in the 5th minute.
Barcelona did not announce how long the young stopper will be out for, but in the Uruguayan camp they fear whether he will recover by the start of the World Cup.
Arauho has already traveled to Turku, where the operation will be performed by the famous Dr. Lase Lempainen.
The Uruguayan joined the "Blaugrana" in 2018 from Boston River, and in the current season he made seven appearances for the first team.
He has played 12 times for the national team, which will be in Group H with Portugal, Ghana and South Korea in Qatar.
Two more Barcelona players returned injured from representative actions - Dutchmen Frenkie de Jong and Memphis Depay. Both have problems with the thigh muscle of their left leg.
