It's time to say goodbye - after almost eight and a half years, Marcelo Gallardo is leaving River Plata.
"Napoleon", a playing and coaching legend of the club from Buenos Aires, will leave the club in December when his contract expires.
"I'm leaving, we won't negotiate a new contract. I'll take a little break, and then I'll take on new challenges," Gallardo said at the press conference.
And it was in the air that 2022 would be Gallardo's last year on the "millionaire" bench.
His departure was also mentioned last year, at one point he had the option to take over Barcelona, before Xavi Hernandez became the coach of the Catalans.
Gallardo took over River in June 2014, he won two trophies in the Copa Libertadores, he was the European champion once, he also has a cup in the Copa Sudamericana...
He was elected the best coach in South America three times, and now he could continue his career in Europe.
