The end of the 15th round in the Hungarian OTP League is eagerly awaited by Montenegrin stopper Meldin Drešković, even though his team from Debrecen won against Mezokoves with 1:0 the day before. Not without reason, since the 24-year-old from Plavljan is once again competing for the ideal 11 in the strongest Hungarian football championship. In the past period, he was already elected twice...
Last summer, after winning the title with Sutjeska, Drešković signed a contract with Debrecen.
"It would mean that for the third time in the last five rounds, I would be included in the ideal lineup of the played round of the strongest league in the country, and I think that I am in the competition again because I played excellently and we did not concede a goal. My task is to save the network. In the last four rounds, I was in the ideal 11 twice. That is appreciated and especially followed here", he explained the current status and form in which the Montenegrin representative is playing.
After great games and success with Jezera, Drešković further raised the quality of the game in Sutjeska, and the status of a national team player, and then earned the academic title of engineer, but two details spoiled the year from the fairy tale.
"A wrong covid test caused me to join the national team late, the second one was negative and luckily I realized my dream of playing in the national jersey in the victory over Greece in a friendly match which was solved by Milutin Osmajić on a pass from Novica Eraković. And that bad moment and a lot of injuries in the selection at the end of the League of Nations did not escape me either, so I rested for a month due to an injury to my left foot. And that five days before the start of the championship and from the position of the first option that I deserved during the preparations".
Nevertheless, the proverbially hard-working and persistent Drešković took advantage of his first chance and a place among the best defenders in the league. The invitation for the October representative cycle, however, did not arrive.
"The most important thing is to play standard and well in the club, then all the dice will line up. And it is not at all easy to be in the best 11 in Hungary twice in four rounds, I can't wait for the new selection of the ideal 11 and I hope for my name in the 15th round as well. Ferencvaros won the Europa League group ahead of Monaco, Trabzon and Red Star. "Football is expanding, Hungary was one point short of winning in the 'group of death' A of the League of Nations with Italy, Germany and England," says Drešković.
And Montenegro had a chance to qualify for the A League of Nations...
"Regardless of the fact that we missed the chance due to a bunch of problems, the selected status of B League of Nations is an enormous success. Well, one England will play in the same rank. And our football is objectively below the best," adds the former player of Jezera, Mladost DG and Sutjeska, who can already compare.
"The difference is primarily in the conditions. Debrecen has 10 grass fields, plus two with an artificial surface, and there is also a hall with two stadiums, a gym, an ice room... There are two doctors and a physiotherapist at each training session, along with the head coach, there are also four assistants. The state prescribes huge fines if the club is a second late with the salary. It is up to the player to think about football, personal and team progress".
What are Debrecen's ambitions?
"The new management took over the club, and after a bad start to the season, we started to win, but we also enjoy working with the new coach, Srđan Blagojević. His goal is for each of us to improve, to be a better player, and we were lucky. I was especially relieved because of the easy communication, the Hungarian language is difficult to learn, I'm trying, but I only succeeded in basic communication. If we win the last game on Saturday before the break, away to Puskas Academy, we will be ahead of schedule. We are in the round of XNUMX and in the Cup, and we will play with Đero", concludes Drešković.
The "World Cup" break will be more pleasant
Next is the World Cup in Qatar, a break in most championships, which means a rest for many football players...
"We will take a break until December 19, the day after the World Cup final. And I can't wait, because I haven't seen my family for five months, and in addition to staying in Plav, I'm also planning a 10-day trip with my wife. Then club duties, I have a contract for two plus a year. I'm overjoyed, but every player aspires to an even stronger league, a bigger stage... It's easier to get to the national team jersey that way, so we'll see. I have a great relationship at the club, Dorijan and David Babunski, who are also from a football family (Meldinov's father, Almir, was a first league player in Prishtina, prim, a) at the start they welcomed me nicely, but David is now in Mezokoves. After me, our international Dušan Lagator arrived. There is no need to waste words on coach Blagojević, he is an excellent expert and person", said Drešković
