Kevin de Bruyne has said Belgium have "no chance" of winning the 2022 World Cup because they are "too old"!
Only five national teams have an average younger team than Belgium, but the key players are over 30 years old.
Most of Belgium's "golden generation", including Eden Hazard, Jan Vertonghen and De Bruyne himself, will have passed their peak by 2026, or may not appear at the next World Cup at all.
When asked by the Guardian whether Belgium could win the World Cup in Qatar, the Manchester City ace replied:
“No way, we're too old. I think our chance was in 2018. We have a good team, but an old one. We lost some key players. We have some good new players coming in, but they are not at the level that other players were in 2018. I see us more as underdogs”.
In an interview with the Guardian, De Bruyne talked about life at Manchester City, where he is the highest paid player on £385.000 a week.
When asked if he earns too much, De Bruyne replied:
“No. I compare it to a singer at a concert and 60.000 people come. I look at it logically. There are millions of people watching football on TV, 60.000 watching the matches, the club's income is £500-600 million. Yes, that's a lot of money, but is it too much? If the club can afford it, it's not too much. That's not a popular answer, but that's how I see it."
