If Kylian Mbappe does not score four goals for PSG against Strasbourg on Wednesday, the top scorer in the world in the national leagues in 2022 will be a Montenegrin.
The International Institute for Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) calculated that Boris Kopitović is currently the top scorer in the championships of all FIFA member countries.
Kopitović, the striker of Tampines Rovers, scored 35 goals in the Singapore championship, so that, overall, and not counting the strength of the competition, he is the best scorer on the "domestic" stage.
Behind Kopitović are the Argentinian Herman Cano, striker of the Brazilian Fluminense, and the Japanese Kodai Tanaka, who also plays in Singapore, in the Albirex Nigata team, with 33 goals each.
Fourth on that list is the Irish Garban Kolan (Kashmir, New Zealand) with 32, followed by Kylian Mbappe (PSG), Argentine Nicolas Ibanez (Pachuca, Mexico) with 31 each, and Robert Lewandowski (Bayern/Barcelona) with 29.
Kopitović (27) went to Singapore in 2020, after playing in the CFL in Petrovac, OFK Titograd and Komo.
He scored 63 goals in 60 matches for Tampines Rovers in two seasons.
