At the beginning of this week, Roberto Martinez was promoted to the head coach of Portugal, thereby putting an end to speculations that Jose Mourinho could leave Roma because of a call from his homeland.
Mourinho himself confirmed that the speculations about the Football Association's invitation were true, although the president of the federation, Fernando Gomes, denied it.
"Martinez is the only coach we've talked to," Gomes said of the recent Belgium coach.
Mourinho obviously did not like that statement.
"The fact that the president of FC Portugal said that I was not the first option, but only one of them, makes me proud. Now the only thing that matters is that I am there, on the bench of Roma. But, I am the one who decided not to accept the invitation." Mourinho pointed out.
