Brazilian football representative Dani Alves was arrested today in Barcelona after a woman accused him of sexual assault. The most decorated football player in history was accused by a woman of assaulting her in a nightclub in Barcelona on December 30 last year. She filed a groping complaint against Alves on Jan. 2, regional police said. The football player of Mexican Unam denied the accusations and said that he did not know the woman.
The police questioned the 39-year-old football player, who will now appear before a judge. The court will decide on further steps while the case is investigated.
A charge of sexual assault in Spain can cover anything from unwanted touching to rape.
Police said they could not release details about the case.
During his career, Alves played for Bahia, Sevilla, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Sao Paolo. He won a total of 23 trophies with Barcelona. He is the most trophy-winning footballer with 46 trophies at the senior level, 47 in total.
