A doll with the likeness of Real Madrid footballer Vinicius Junior has been placed hanging from the bridge, ahead of tonight's city derby in the Copa del Rey.
On the same bridge, which is located not far from the Real Madrid training camp, on the night between Wednesday and Thursday, Atlético fans hung a banner: "Madrid hates Real".
Spanish media said it was a "racist attack" and a serious threat.
The local police told Agence France-Presse that an investigation has been opened into the incident, without giving details.
"We express the strongest condemnation of these events that violate the basic rights and dignity of people, and have nothing to do with the values represented by football and sport," Real said in a statement.
Real Madrid welcomes the support it has received "after the malicious and atrocious act of racism and xenophobia suffered by Vinicius", and "hopes that those responsible will be punished".
In a statement, Atlético stated that "such actions are horrible, unacceptable and shameful for society".
They added that "the rivalry between the two clubs is great, but with mutual respect".
In September last year, ahead of a La Liga derby, several Atlético fans were filmed singing a racist song directed at the Brazilian striker.
The police then opened an investigation and did not find the authors of that song.
"We have to protect him. Football needs him. He has an exceptional talent and we have to protect him both physically and mentally," Real coach Carlo Ancelotti said.
The quarter-final match of the Cup is tonight at 21:XNUMX at the "Santiago Bernabeu" stadium.
