Two senior Chinese soccer officials are under investigation for "serious violations of the law," the General Administration of Sports, China's top sports body, said today.
As reported, the head of the competition department and the head of the disciplinary committee of the Chinese Football Association (CFA), Huang Song and Wang Xiaoping, are under investigation.
They are the latest in a string of football executives implicated in the case since November, including FA president Chen Suyuan.
No further details of the alleged crimes were provided when the investigations were announced, but the term is commonly used by Chinese government agencies to refer to corruption.
Chinese President Xi Jinping is a big football fan and he does not hide his desire that he would like China to host the World Cup.
However, his anti-corruption campaign has engulfed domestic football in recent months, hitting a sector already beset by financial problems and the impact of the coronavirus policy.
The investigation also included "several" professional football players in the first two Chinese leagues, a local newspaper reported today, citing unnamed sources.
