The Frenchman Clermont Turpan will be the referee for the match between Montenegro and Serbia in the qualifiers for the European Championship.
On Monday (20:45), Montenegro welcomes Serbia in the second round of qualifications.
Turpan is a strong name in the world of football referees, so by choosing him, UEFA made it clear that the match, which will be played on Monday in the capital of Montenegro, is one of the most important at the beginning of the qualification cycle.
The Frenchman has been on FIFA's list of referees since 2010, and in the 2010/2011 season. made his debut in UEFA competitions. In 2012, UEFA included him in the list of elite referees.
He refereed at the world championships in 2018 and 2022. In Qatar, he administered justice in the matches Uruguay - South Korea, Ecuador - Senegal and Brazil - South Korea.
He served justice at the European Championships in 2016 and 2020.
Turpan refereed Real Madrid and Liverpool in the Champions League final last season, and the year before he was the main referee in the match between Manchester United and Villarreal in the Europa League final.
Turpan will be assisted by compatriots Nikolas Danos and Benžaman Pažes.
The fourth arbitrator is Rudi Buke, known to the Montenegrin public. In 2019, he refereed the match between Bulgaria and Montenegro at the start of the qualifiers for Euro 2020 (1:1), and he was remembered for awarding a non-existent penalty to the Bulgarians. In the 82nd minute, he pointed to a penalty, although Vladimir Jovović brought down the Bulgaria player outside 16 meters.
In 2011, Buke served justice in the match between the youth selections of Bulgaria and Montenegro in the qualifiers for the European Championship.
