Krstajić: We don't have footballers from top leagues, we get tired quickly

After two rounds of qualification for the European Championship, the Bulgarian football team has no points and no goals scored.

The Bulgarians lost to Montenegro (1:0) at the start in Razgrad, and last night they were convincingly defeated by Hungary (3:0) in Budapest.

Bulgaria entered this cycle with a little more optimism - the team with the new coach, Mladen Krstajić and a rejuvenated team was undefeated in four matches, but the March cycle showed that the Bulgarians have a difficult task ahead of them.

"We don't have footballers from the top leagues who could match the speed of the Hungarians. We were followed by bad luck with several injured players, which led to forced changes after the first half. Our players who play in Bulgaria do not have the rhythm required for representative football. They get tired quickly, the same thing happened against Montenegro. It is true that we have a talented selection, but at the same time an inexperienced one, and therefore we cannot expect it to compete at this level. We are not ready for that at the moment", admitted Krstajić after the match with the Hungarians.

Bulgaria already conceded three goals against the Hungarians in the first half - the scorers were Vecsei, Sobošlaj and Adam.

"Hungarian footballers are members of some of the strong European clubs. It is not the same national team as it was ten or 15 years ago. I remind you that this team successfully competed with the Italians and the English in the League of Nations. It represents a high level of football. Maybe we could apply that model in the future. Dominik Sobošlaj is a high-class soccer player who plays at an exceptional level. And he is not the only one in the Hungarian national team".

Krstajić is honest that his selection is far from elite.

"We don't have players like Hungary or Serbia. It has to be said. The ones I invited have quality, but they struggle against more experienced teams. I believe they have a future ahead of them. Some play more in their teams, some less, but we can rely on them. I still believe that the future is ahead of them, that they are the best that Bulgaria has. And it's not only in Bulgaria, but also in other countries, it's always the coach or selector who is to blame. Experienced footballers also have a role, however, we want to create a team for the future", added Mladen Krstajić.

In June, Bulgaria plays Serbia in Razgrad.
