The president of the Football Association of Serbia, Dragan Džajić, said that the football team of Montenegro pleasantly surprised him, and that the reception in Podgorica was impressive.
On Monday, Serbia defeated Montenegro (2:0) in the second round of qualification for the European Championship at the City Stadium.
"It was important to win the first two games, the team gained additional self-confidence and full of optimism we are waiting for June and the next obligations in the qualifications for the European Championship. We are aware that there is no relaxation, I would like the players to forget Lithuania and Montenegro as soon as possible and to think only about the duel against Bulgaria. I am overjoyed, first of all, because we solved a difficult game in our favor. "Montenegro is a very pleasant surprise for me, they played at a high level and that's why our victory gains even more importance," Džajić told the FSS website.
The players of Serbia and coach Dragan Stojković spoke highly of the atmosphere in the stands during the match, but also of the reception and stay in Podgorica.
"We were expecting a good reception, because the people in Podgorica love football and follow our players, but to have this much interest is really a pleasant surprise even for me. From the reception at the airport, then in front of the Hilton Hotel, then at the training and in front of the stadium when the bus with our national team members arrived, these are really wonderful scenes. We also had a formal reception with Dritan Abazović, they showed us at every step how much they respect Serbian football and I have to thank them once again for everything. We are returning to Belgrade full of impressions because of everything we experienced in Podgorica."
Džajić also arrived to talk with the president of the Football Association of Montenegro, Dejan Savićević.
"Dejo was very correct, as always. It's normal for him to be a little nervous after a loss, that's quite natural. I understand him, he is temperamental and it was not easy for him. But everything else was commendable. Socializing at the official dinner, during the game, he came up afterwards and congratulated us on the victory. Kudos to him," said Džajić.
