Monaco captain Wissam Ben Yedder was sentenced to a six-month suspended prison sentence and a fine of almost 135 euros for tax evasion in Spain, the court in Seville, where the French national team player played from 2016 to 2019, announced today.
The sentence was obtained by agreement of all parties, and the French international will not go to prison if he does not commit a criminal offense in the next two years.
The Spanish judiciary considers that the player "did not submit his tax return on time" in 2017, after his first year in Spain.
The court in Seville specified that the Spanish tax authorities informed the player about this on January 4, 2019, but that Ben Jeder responded to this request only two months later, on March 5, when he paid 225 thousand euros to the Spanish tax authorities.
However, according to this regional court in Seville, the attacker "knowingly falsified his statement by not including the interest received" on three bank accounts he held, with a sum of up to 1.600 euros.
The former Sevilla football player also failed to add the income received through the sponsorship contract that the company concluded on his behalf with the Adidas brand, income that amounted to 80 thousand euros for 2017.
The company that the player founded has the sole purpose of hiding this income without having to pay taxes on it, the Spanish judges judged.
Despite the fact that the player paid 51 euros a little later, the judiciary decided to sentence him for delay in payment.
