Wrexham football club owners Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have invited former Welsh international Gareth Bale to come out of retirement and play for their club.
Bale congratulated Wrexham on his promotion to the fourth English league, and Reynolds and McElhenney took advantage of that and sent him an invitation through social networks.
In response to Bale's video message, McElhaney wrote on Twitter: "Hey Gareth Bale, let's play golf, where I'm totally not going to spend four hours trying to convince you to come back for another magical season."
In response, Bale wrote, "Depends on the course..." and tagged the organizers of the British Open, which is based in St Andrews, Scotland.
The former Tottenham and Real Madrid player ended his career three months ago. He has never played minor league football and would probably demand a big salary. Bale was born in Cardiff, Wales, home of Wrexham football club.
Reynolds and McElhenney took over Wrexham when the club was in dire straits in 2021 and have since lifted it up. The club gained financial stability and popularity, and since then they have been promoting it in various ways.
Both were in tears at the end of Saturday's game against Boreham Wood, which Wrexham won 3:1 and automatically moved from the National League to the fourth English league - League Two.
