The head coach of the Scottish football team, Steve Clarke, said that after the victory against Georgia, his team is closer to qualifying for the 2024 European Championship.
Scotland beat Georgia 2:0 in Group A last night in Glasgow and have all 12 points in first place in the table. The match was interrupted for an hour and 40 minutes due to a flooded pitch after the heavy rain that fell in Glasgow.
The Georgian team did not want to continue the game in those conditions, but still went on the field after the third inspection of the field.
"It's a good start to the qualification, a really good start. I said that we won't qualify with six points, and I don't think we'll qualify with 12 either. But now we're much closer to the points balance that will bring us a qualification. No one knows how much it will be, so let's get points whenever we can and then at the end we'll see if we've succeeded," Clarke said, as reported by the BBC.
Scotland won with goals from Callum McGregor and Scott McTominey, who scored his fifth goal in these qualifiers.
"In the second part of the qualifiers, we will have three away games and a difficult match against Norway at home. We have to come back concentrated in September and continue what we started," said the Scottish coach.
Georgia is second in the table with four points from three games, and Norway has four points from four matches. Spain is fourth with three points from two games and Cyprus is last with no points from three games.
