He was preparing to play in the Champions League with Sociedad, but the legendary footballer was forced to end his career - David Silva said it was enough.
He did it at the age of 37 after suffering a serious knee injury last week.
"This is a sad day for me, a day when I have to say goodbye to what I have dedicated my whole life to. Today is the time to say goodbye to my teammates who were like family to me. I will miss you a lot. Thank you all because with you I felt like at his home," said Silva.
He started his career in Valencia, and in 2010 he joined Manchester City and became a club legend.
He was at the Etihad until 2020 and won 12 trophies, four of which were the English championship.
He was a member of Sociedad for the last three years, and he left a big mark on the Spanish national team.
He was very important in winning big cups - with the "red fury" he was European champion in 2008 and 2010, as well as world champion in 2010.
