As of today, Croatian footballer Joško Guardiol is officially a new player of Manchester City, with whom he signed a five-year contract.
Guardiol joined the ranks of the current European and English champions from Leipzig for 90 million euros, which, according to the media, ranks him among the most expensive defenders in the history of football.
According to the media, with this transfer, Guardiol became the second most expensive defender in history, after Harry Maguire, whom Manchester United brought from Leicester in 2019 for around 93 million euros.
"Everyone who watched City last season knows that it's the best team in the world. Coming to this club is something special for me and my family. It will be great to work with Pep Guardiola. I know I'm not done with my development as a player yet, and I'm sure that I will improve playing for the best coach in the world," said the 21-year-old Guardiol.
Guardiol started his career in Dinamo Zagreb, from where he moved to Leipzig. He won two German Cup trophies with Leipzig.
So far, he has made 21 appearances for the Croatian national team and scored two goals.
