Manchester United footballer Antoni has been removed from the Brazilian national team list following accusations of abuse by his ex-girlfriend, the country's federation reported today.
The Brazilian Football Confederation announced that 23-year-old Antoni was withdrawn from the team after "facts, which need to be investigated, became public".
"I can say that the accusations are false and that the evidence will show that I am innocent of the accusations made. I believe that the ongoing police investigation will prove my innocence," Antoni wrote on social media.
Antoni is accused of "headbutting" his ex-girlfriend Gabriela Kavalin in a hotel room in Manchester on January 15, leaving her with a severed head that required medical attention.
She also stated that she was punched in the chest, which damaged the silicone breast implant, so she had to go for correction.
Antoni said on Monday that his relationship with his ex-partner was "tumultuous", but insisted that "he was never physically aggressive".
