The pioneering football team of Montenegro defeated the selection of North Macedonia 2:1 today in Štip, in the first of two friendly matches.
North Macedonia took the lead in the 50th minute with a goal by Andrej Cvetkovski from about twenty meters.
Petar Begović equalized in the 51st minute, after an assist from Luka Vušurović.
The question of the winner was solved by Mark Đokaj in the 76th minute.
Selector Minja Ljumović said that Montenegro achieved a well-deserved victory.
According to him, even though his team lost at halftime, they were not a worse opponent.
"We even had some good situations in front of the rival's goal. You could see that the boys were in spasms, they didn't do what was agreed. In the following, the picture was completely different. We insisted on playing from the back line, making high pressing and the boys respected that," Ljumović said.
He emphasized that the Montenegrin footballers dominated during the second half and that they could have scored more goals.
"I am happy with many segments that we showed in the game, but I am concerned about the physical condition of some players, who already felt tired in the first half," said coach Ljumović.
A new duel between the Montenegrin and Macedonian selections is scheduled for Thursday at 11 a.m.
