Last November, at the moment when his Elće was looking down on the rest of the Spanish La Liga, he was fired by the club from Alicante - a year later he was on the verge of becoming one of the immortal great Boke Juniors.
Jorge Almiron led Boca from the bench to the Copa Libertadores final, and after he failed to bring the giants from Buenos Aires a record seventh title against Fluminense, he decided to leave the club.
The decision to part with the coach was announced by Boca...
"Almiron and his coaching staff have made the decision to terminate the contract that is valid until the end of the season. Our club appreciates everything they have brought to Boka and wishes them much success in the future," announced Boka.
Almiron did not have a great playing career, it was mostly related to Mexico, where he began his coaching life.
However, he drew attention to himself after returning to his homeland, where in 2016 he brought Lanus the second championship crown of Argentina. Before Elće and Boca, he managed the Colombian giants Atlético Nacional, then San Lorenzo and Saudi Al Shabaab.
It is not yet known who will take over the giant from "Bombonjera", but it is clear that the new coach will have an important job waiting for him by the end of the year, as Boca will face challenges in the Argentina Cup, which can bring them a place in the group stage of the next edition of the Copa Libertadores.
The six-time champion of South America plays Estudiantes from La Plata in the semi-finals, and only winning the Cup means placing in the elite.
