The "Ulcinj World Cup of Friendship" was declared officially open today around noon by the President of the Municipality of Ulcinj, Omer Bajraktari, and the Deputy Prime Minister for Demography and Youth and the Minister of Sports, Dragoslav Šćekić, after which the presentation of the participants began.
Bajraktari said that the World Cup of Friendship is a special manifestation that puts Ulcinj on the map of sports cities, culture and tourism along with traditional hospitality.
"This has always been an open city that welcomed every visitor, tourist and people of good will with a big heart. So thank you to everyone who came and who will take away the most beautiful impressions from our city and tell your friends, comrades and acquaintances. The prestigious manifestation, which is a kind of promotion of Ulcinj and Montenegro, will last for three days and without a doubt, will be the central sports event in the region.
The main initiator and one of the organizers of the event is the respected businessman from Ulcinj, former basketball player and sports worker Pavle Pajo Pepđonović. He was also the creator of last year's "Ivan's Ulcinj Game", which delighted the entire region with its mass and names and was dedicated to the promotion of the book and film of the famous Hajduk football player and national team player Ivan Gudelj.
"The whole city united on the issue of this organization. The final preparations are going on with great energy, there is no citizen who did not come forward and support the event on their own initiative," Pepđonović told Vijest before the new gathering of legends.
"Again, from the most beautiful city on the Adriatic, we are sending a message of friendship, respect, love, togetherness and peace. Athletes are ambassadors of the world. On the first day of the World Cup, the presentation of the participants, the promotion of the documentary about the legendary Miroslav Ćir Blažević in the House of Culture, and later a formal dinner in Primavera are planned. The second day, among other things, was reserved for the promotion of the film by journalist and publicist Milutin Grgur about "Ivan's Street Game". On the third day, a showcase match of football legends is planned, lasting twice for 20 minutes, if the weather conditions allow it.
