The construction of a national football stadium is a real need of Montenegro, said the new Minister of Sports and Youth Dragoslav-Dado Šćekić.
The stadium under Gorica is being built like Skadar na Bojana, not even three decades since the reconstruction began in the nineties, that facility is not a "closed" whole, because only a few rows of the eastern tribune were built.
Many "attempts", several projects, conceptual solutions, and even presentations - everything, it turned out, was a blur, and Montenegro football has long lagged behind Europe when it comes to the conditions in which foreign national teams, their fans, the media are welcomed... .
The current issue is whether to build the eastern stand of the stadium under Gorica, or whether the solution is to build a new national stadium - outside the city, according to all possible Uefa standards.
As announced by the Ministry of Sports and Youth, the idea of needing to build a new national football stadium was promoted today.
"At the meeting, a number of reasons why it is necessary to enter into this project were presented. There is a real need for the stadium to meet all the most modern conditions, and to provide modern comfort not only to the players, sports workers, but also to the spectators. With this project, all football teams would get their home stadium, and at the same time the citizens of Podgorica would get easier traffic, as well as a solved problem with parking spaces," Šćekić's department announced.
National stadiums in all countries are built by states and governments, with the help of the Football Association, which applies for funds from the European Football Union (UEFA).
The Minister of Sports and Youth said that this idea will result in discussions with the leaders of the Football Association of Montenegro as soon as possible, after which the public and competent state institutions will be informed of the details.
