The invitation from Istanbul has been valid since mid-December, and it seems that one of the three biggest clubs in Turkey still believes in bringing Stefan Savić.
The Turkish public service TRT announced today that Fenerbahçe contacted Atletico Madrid with the desire to bring the Montenegrin footballer already during this transfer window.
The same source writes that Fener first planned to bring Jaglar Sojundzu from Atlético, but allegedly the coach of the "Koloćoneros" Diego Simeone promised the Turkish defender more playing time.
"After that, Fenerbahçe turned to Savić and knocked on Atlético's door - the Turkish club plans to sign players who would arrive in Istanbul in the second week of January," writes the website of Turkish Radio and Television.
Žarko Peličić, Stefan Savić's agent, denied to "Vijesti" in December the information that the Montenegrin representative is in negotiations with Fenerbahce, but it seems that the club from the "Sukru Saracoglu" stadium has not given up on a potentially large reinforcement.
TRT adds at the end that Savić allegedly met with Fenerbahçe forward Edin Džeko, with whom he once played in Manchester City.
After a good start to the season, Savić was less and less in Simeon's plans, so he was on the bench for the reserve players in the first match of the new year against Girona.
In addition, his contract with Atletico expires in June when he could leave without compensation, so it would not be a huge surprise if he leaves Madrid in the coming days.
