Legendarni Robert Prosinecki today, at the session of the FSCG Executive Committee, he was promoted to the position of coach of the national football team of Montenegro.
Thus, after almost two months of searching for a new leader of the "falcons", the choice fell on Veliki Žuto - a former teammate and great friend of the FSCG president Dejan Savićević.
The two of them took Red Star to the top of the world more than 30 years ago, and some of the statements show how much they are valued and respected:
"Savicević is the best player I played with, and I also played with the Brazilian Ronaldo, to Fig and everything else...", said Prosinečki.
"If Prosinečki had stayed, Crvena zvezda would have defended the title of European champion," said Savićević.
Many years later, their paths cross again - in Montenegro.
Everything has been written about Robert Prosinecki's playing career - that he was the best player at the Youth World Cup in Chile in 1987, where Yugoslavia became the world champion, that he conquered Europe with Red Star, that he played for Real Madrid and Barcelona, that he was with the Croatian national team In 1998, he was third in the world...
His coaching career is also varied, he was tempered in the best possible place - the Croatian national team bench, where he is Slaven Bilić spent four years, was at the European Championship in 2008. He left to take over Crvena zvezda, on whose bench in his first independent coaching engagement, in the years of the financial crisis of the "red and whites", he won the Serbian Cup in two seasons.
He managed the Turkish Kayserspor twice, and what recommended him to the Montenegrin bench was his representative experience. For three years, from 2014 to 2017, he led Azerbaijan and is one of the most successful coaches of that country, along with the German Bertie Fogst, whom he succeeded at the helm.
At the beginning of 2018, he took over the national selection of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with which he made success in the first competition that awaited him - he won the B League of Nations and led the "dragons" to the A League. The first competition on the bench of the Montenegrin national team in Prosinečko will be the League of Nations, namely B...
He equaled the record at the time Safet Sušić by the number of consecutive matches without defeat (10), but the next cycle, the qualification for European Championship 2020, was not so successful, so in November 2019 he left the BiH bench, leaving his successor, Dusan Bajević, a playoff for the EP was held. However, Bosnia did not succeed, losing in the semi-final on penalties to Northern Ireland.
The 55-year-old Robi then briefly managed some other clubs, the Turkish Denizlispor, the Slovenian Olimpija and the Croatian Rudeš, and now he is returning to representative football. And exactly 14 years since his compatriot, now deceased Zlatko-Cico Kranjčar, dreamed the most beautiful dreams with Montenegro.
