The German Football League (DFL), which organizes the Bundesliga, announced today that it has abandoned a planned agreement with private investors, following strong protests from fans over the announcement of the project.
"Given the current events, a successful continuation of the process is no longer possible," said DFL spokesman Hans-Joakim Vacke, after the body's meeting in Frankfurt.
Ever since the project was announced, fans have been protesting against the entry of private investors into the Bundesliga.
The protests have culminated in the past few weeks, with fans at almost every Bundesliga game interrupting matches by throwing objects onto the pitch.
