The land of myths and legends got another story to remember, now a new football one...
It may be the third-highest competition in Europe, but the way Greek Olympiakos reached the quarter-finals of the Conference League deserves to be mythic.
The club from Piraeus was defeated by Maccabi from Tel Aviv (4:1) at its "Karaiskakis", and was written off already then, and then in Bačka Topola (due to the war in the Middle East, the game was played in Serbia) told a memorable story - with a victory of 6:1 after 120 minutes "turned upside down" the legendary Robbie Keen's team.
Stevan Jovetić was also part of the spectacular match, and when the Montenegrin captain gets an opportunity, it is practically always used in the right way.
Jovetić entered the game in the 82nd minute with the score 4:1, in stoppage time from a difficult situation he almost solved the match even before overtime, but what he failed to do then was after three minutes of the first overtime.
A smart and quick reaction and a goal through the legs of Roj Mishpati - the giant from Piraeus already had a place in the quarterfinals in his pocket.
"Jovetic is a 'man of big matches', a footballer who scores important goals. His football intelligence is impressive, he is probably the most intelligent football player in Greece," wrote the portal Sportlive.gr.
The same media reminds that Jovetic arrived in Greece at the beginning of the season, that he had no problems with injuries, so even though he mostly starts from the bench, he gained new momentum with Jose Luis Mendilibar and is playing great games.
"He is a blessing for Greek football, Olympiakos added, and his understanding of football raises the level of sports in the country," added Sportlive.gr.
"Gazzetta.gr" brings a catchy title - "Where logic stops, Olympiakos appears".
"He didn't waste much time when the ball reached him and scored with a great shot to make it 5:1".
Mendilibar has known the qualities of Jovetić since La Liga, as he led Eibar when our maestro in Seville provided probably the best games of his career. The experienced expert now mostly introduces the Montenegrin captain from the bench, but that does not mean that he appreciates him less than when he was in Andalusia.
"Medilibar wants him in the rotation, and Jovetic shows with his diverse performances that he can be a 'hidden card' in the following games," he wrote after the game with Ferencvaros in the playoffs of the Conference League "Fosonline.gr".
