Bayer Leverkusen, undefeated this season, will welcome second-division team Fortuna on Wednesday and try to reach the fifth German Cup final in their history.
For the first time in the history of the German Cup, there is only one representative of the Bundesliga among the last four teams, so Xabi Alonso's team are the big favorites.
During its 120 years of existence, Bayer Leverkusen, which was founded by the chemist Bayer in 1904, has so far won only two trophies - the UEFA Cup in 1988 and the German Cup in 1993.
This season, Bayer can add three more trophies to those two, as it is still in the game for trophies in the Bundesliga, the German Cup and the Europa League, but it can also end the streak of winning other places in important competitions (in the championship in 1997, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2011, in the Cup in 2002, 2009, 2020 and in the Champions League in 2002).
First, in the semi-finals of the German Cup, they will have to overcome Fortuna from Dusseldorf, which has been undefeated in Zvajta since mid-February. That match is scheduled for Wednesday at 20.45.
In the second semi-final, the day before, third division Saarbrücken and second division Kaiserslautern will meet. Saarbrücken is the biggest surprise of the competition as it eliminated three Bundesliga players on the way to the semi-finals - Bayern Munich, Eintracht and Borussia Monchengladbach.
The final of the German Cup will be played on May 25 at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin.
