Yesterday, the women's senior football team of Montenegro started preparations for a new competition cycle - qualification for EURO 2025.
In the first round of group C3, our selection welcomes Andorra on Friday, April 5, while they will play the Faroe Islands four days later. Both games will be played at the City Stadium in Podgorica starting at 16:30 p.m.
"We are ready, we expect six points. We are the favorites, it is up to us to justify it. It is expected of us. We have shown in the last two and a half years that we know how to play, that we can play and win," says Nađa Stanović. soccer player from Ferencvaros.
The first rival in the group is Andorra, who in the previous edition of the C League of Nations, won four points, winning and drawing with Moldova. Mirko Marić's team beat the Faroe Islands national team twice last year in the League of Nations, winning 9:0 in Podgorica.
"These are games that are much easier than the one against Northern Ireland in the play-offs for League B, but we must not relax. Every opponent deserves respect, our approach must be as if we are playing against the best, and if so be it, the result should not be missing," said Armisa Kuč and added:
"We have to impose ourselves on the field, to show from the start that we are better, with maximum concentration. Andorra is, on paper, the weakest team in the group, but that must not deceive us, and as far as the Faroe Islands are concerned, we are talking about a dangerous match. We beat Faranka on our field in December 9:0, but we hardly defeated them 1:0 away from home. This means that there can be problems if we relax. Simply, that 9:0 does not exist, this is a new match. "
In the last two competition cycles, the Montenegrin footballers recorded as many as seven victories, they had an excellent presentation in the two-match playoff for placement in the UEFA League B, against Northern Ireland, especially in Belfast, where they deserved more than a draw (1:1).
"We all believed together that everything we have done for years and why we are in football will pay off. I also think that we have drawn the attention of our sports public, it can be seen that people appreciate our results, our obvious progress, and it is up to us to continue , to be even better," Stanović points out.
The favorite in the group is Greece, which came from League B to League C.
"It is on paper, but Northern Ireland was also a bigger favorite, so we showed that we can compete with strong opponents. That's how we will face the duels with Greece, and we will certainly do our best. We are aware that we are worth it, we will enter with confidence in matches with Greek women", says Nađa Stanović, and Armisa Kuč says:
"We have the quality to beat them, we will try and believe that we can. It meant a lot to us that we played such a good game against Northern Ireland in Belfast, that we saw that we can deal with strong selections. We believe in ourselves, we know that we are worth it even if if we show that, I'm sure we'll win six points, because everything depends on us, and then let's attack the Greeks as well," Kuč concluded.
