The football club Union Berlin fired the first coach Nenad Bjelica, and that the team will be led by Marko Grote in the match against Cologne on Saturday, the German club reported on its official website.
"I am looking forward to the task and I am confident that we will manage to avoid relegation. I know the team well and I know that we are capable of doing it if we join forces," said Grote.
Two rounds before the end of the Bundesliga, Union Berlin is in 15th place with 30 points, one more than Mainz, which is in 16th place and is in the play-off zone for survival.
"In the fight for survival, we have to rely on the strength of the entire club. We trust Grote and his team to bring our players back to the highest level and make the upcoming matches successful," said Union Berlin union president Dirk Zingler.
Until the end of the season, Union Berlin will welcome Cologne and host Freiburg.
"I would like to thank Nenad Bjelica and the effort they put in. They managed to stabilize the team in an extremely difficult situation," added Zingler.
