On Friday (17) in Heraklion, the women's senior football team of Montenegro is visiting Greece in the 3rd round of group C3 qualification for EURO 2025.
Both selections have two victories each in the first two matches and will lead the fight for the first place in the group, which brings placement in the first round of playoffs for placement in the final tournament.
In the previous part of the qualification, Montenegro was convincing at home against Andorra (6:1) and the Faroe Islands (5:1) and welcomes the first of two derby matches against the favorites in the group with great optimism. In the first round, the Greek women were better at home than the Faroe Islands (1:0), and then away from Andorra (3:0).
"Greece is the favorite of this group, because it came from a higher level. Maybe it was expected that their victories in the first two rounds would be more convincing, but it is a team that has quality, that is aggressive, with good players. However, behind us are several of good matches, it seems to me that we are growing as a team and that we can be at a good level. I expect us to give our maximum, and if we give our maximum then we can expect the result we want," said coach Mirko Marić.
Montenegro and Greece played in the qualifiers for the 2021 European Championship, both times the Greeks were better - 4:0 in Podgorica, 1:0 at home.
"I think we are much better now than four years ago. I am glad that the girls feel it and believe in themselves, that they want to enter the match with confidence and show what they can do. We have quality, we want to fight for a good result, to let's present as a good team," said Marić.
Captain Slađana Bulatović is convinced that Montenegro can reach first place in group C3.
"I think we showed in the previous matches that we have great quality and that we are the favorites in the group. We respect the opponent, we think that Greece is a very good team, but I believe that we will bring three points. We are growing as a team, we are correcting the mistakes we make, we are a lot more mature than we were. We have every right to believe that in the end we will be the first in the group," said Bulatović.
